Travel to Chania > What to See > Cafe - Bars

The tourists usually prefer to have a coffee in the old town''s harbour during the evening, in one of the numerous cafes and restaurants around the waterfront with lovely views. The Greeks (locals and tourists) usually gather in Koum Kapi during the evening or the first hours of the night for a coffee or a first drink.

Thema (Koum Kapi centre)
It looks like an English pub however it is organised according to Greek standards. Coffee is served outside on the tables with great sea views and on the main bar. During the late hours the cafe converts to bar with RnB's and Greek Pop music.
Il Nostro (Koum Kapi, near the end)
It is a hot coffee-bar which gathers youngs from the early evening hours. It is a must for a first drink.

Synagogi Bar (Old Town, centre)
It is housed in a roofless Venetian building that was once a synagogue. It is one of the best small bars of the Chania old town, preffered by many locals. Quiet even in the busy days with light music, it has a unique romantic atmosphere. The stone and wooden interior is gorgeous.

It is built on the opposite side of the harbour, next to the Lighthouse. We can go there by boat (free barge croosing the harbour). This cafe, bar and restaurant is an excellent palce for a sunset drink.
Fagoto (Old Town, near the castle of Firkas)
It is the oldest bar of Chania. Fagoto has a small but atmospheric space in a Venetian building. It is played jazz and rock music in light tones with fine decoration.
Street (Venetian Harbour, near the main square with the fountain)
It was one of the first rock bars in Chania, today it plays also techno and house music. It is located near the main square of the Venetian harbour.
Dio Lux (Old Town, between the Venetian harbour and Koum Kapi)
The Dio Lux serves the best coffee in Chania and twenty different types of tea. It is one of the most favourite hang-outs of the youngs.

Nykterida (Korakies, on the airport road, 2821064215)
If you want to lash out this is reputedly the best in Chania with Churchill, Anthony Quinn, Melina Mercouri and Andreas Papandreou to have been some of its famous visitors. It is located in the quieter eastern part of the Venetian harbour and it serves fish and Cretan dishes. There is also a good wine list and a view over the harbour.

Splendid (Platanias centre)
It is a very famous cafe-bar since every evening and night here are gathered hundreds of tourists from all over the world to entertain.
Tropicano (Platanias centre)
It is located next to the cafe-bar Splendid. Every evening and night here are gathered hundreds of tourists from all over the world to entertain.

Galasia Thea (Falassarna, 2822041421, home-cooked dishes)
Galasia Thea is located on the top of the cliff in Falassarna with great views on the beach and the sea. It is an ideal place for coffee and home-cooked dishes.

Milos tou Tzerani (Kolymbari, snacks-mezedes, 2824022210)
It is a cafe-bar on the edge of the sea and it is a fine place for a coffee or an evening drink. There are offered also snacks and mezedes.
