Tree Villa in Dafnedes, app. 6 km. from Perama, and 25 km. from Rethymnon is a very nice and spacious villa. We stayed there for a week with eight persons, but the house can easily accommodate 12 persons.
The villa is large and spacious, and there are six regular bedrooms + a lot of bathrooms, so you will newer run out of space. On top of that there are seven (!) balconies and terraces, so you can be seated a new place every night.
Our host who owns the house and built it for him self 22 years ago, is an exceptionally service minded and engaged host. He and his family (who also runs the very nice 32-apartment large Stone Village in Bali) did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. Mid-week, a SWOT team of 4 persons cleaned the house. And as we were travelling with kids, the host bought our girls two Ponies to ride on in the backyard! Plus six hens to be fed. Excellent and a great experience for the kids.
Dafnedes is a very small and sleepy village, but charming in itself to follow rural life close by. There is a bakery, a gas station and a little cafe to follow life drifting by. I preferred being close to authentic Cretan living compared to a standard tourist resort.
You will need a car to explore Crete, and a car is essential from Tree Villa if you want to go anywhere. But most people would probably hire a car anyway if you are interested in culture and nature and not just want to be rosted on the beach for a full week.
There are big trees around the pool, so after 5 pm there is not much sun anymore in the pool area. To my view this is an advantage though, as it gets very hot in the afternoon sun, so you will appreciate.
I can highly recommend booking via TheHotel.Gr. The staff is friendly, and service-minded, and are good in following up.
